Who ever thought that Philips is solely a manufacturer of household appliances, TV’s and other high-tech industrial equipment, is quite wrong. They created a project called: Philips Design Probes. Philips Design Probes focuses on trends and products that might have a chance to turn into desired objects in the future – somewhere in 2020, according to Philips. But 2020 is just 12 years from now. Philips developed beautiful pieces, such as jewels and clothes, which are activated by the body temperature, the environment, or by the “vibration” in the room where the wearer of the product finds herself. The designs remind me of the creations of Hussein Chalayan maybe not in design, but at least in terms of technology. The difference between the two brands is that the clothes of Chalayan can be bought today and there is no reason to wait till 2020.
Among other features the Philips products are colour sensitive, even colour changing in respect to the humour of the user and the electronic jewels are activated by the temperature of the body.
