These are exciting grammatical times and the folks over at the New York Daily News are exploring 'Teabonics' through a 24 photo slideshow. Teabonics describes the creative spelling and grammar of 'Tea Party' protest signs that include misspelling and improper apostrophe placement.
In the past, Miss Manners has advised, "The first obligation of the demonstrator is to be legible... The next rule of conduct is that demonstrators not vent their discontent on passersby, whom they should be impressing with their goodwill and reasonableness."
Perhaps the third obligation is to be intelligible, although Teabonics users might argue that standardized spelling is a construct of the institutions against which the Tea Party protests.
