Surreal Animal Jewelry - Metal Clay Silver Art by Gordon Uyehara (GALLERY)

Gordon Uyehara from Hawaii, USA is an amazingly skilled metal clay silver artist.  Every piece on his website is a work of art. I have chosen his surreal creatures for the gallery because they show his appreciation for nature as well as his imagination.  The lead picture is called “Ancient Life” which is his take of a chambered nautilus, a type of shellfish scientists call a living fossil because the species has remained the same for millions of years. His highly stylised slug entitled “Forest Spirit” is welcome in my garden any time! Then there is his “Coil Creature” so named because he used coils of clay and a scarab like creation. Every design on his website is so good - even the one he called “Alien Pet, Spot” pendant with two eyes at the top of its body, which he claims has flaws and is not for sale.

He sculpts this special type of clay, adding different textures as required and then the clay is fired. Sometimes the process is repeated as he painstakingly builds up his creations. Gordon has won numerous jewelry design awards and is an advanced silver clay instructor.
