Even-though is not a monthly magazine (thanks God because I could not be able to enjoy it in only 30 days!), it is one of the most interesting ideas ever in the fashion magazines orbit. Edited by the prestigious Magnum Photo Agency, one issue is launched in a year basis and the concept behind this spectacularly designed Fashion Magazine is that is one photographer at a time that builds this magazine entirely from zero.
After the amazing success of Martin Parr’s first edition of the experimental large- format Fashion Magazine , the Brooklyn photographer Bruce Gilden takes the relief by editing a magazine with plenty of black humor, theatrical feeling and direct photographs. Building on what he understands as Fashion’ seven sins, he develops this theme in seven volumes, every one depicting a major fashion sin: Power, Fame, Addictions, Body, Fantasmes, Exclusive and Illicit. Combining black and white pictures with anecdotes from backstage cat-walks signed by prestigious names as Hedi Slimane, Viktor & Rolf, Azzadine Alaïa, Ingrid Sischy, Bob Colacelo and Francesco Vezzoli; Bruce Gilden obtains a coherent, yet shocking piece of art.
As the art itself, every page is conceived by the NY photographer, including the shoots of the numerous advertisement from Baccarat, Dior, YSL, Christian Lacroix, Hypnôse by Lancôme, Louis Vuitton, Lavazza, Paul Smith, Marc Jacobs, Viktor & Rolf perfumes.
You will only find it in specialized photography stores, museus or underground art gallery’s!
