Anti-Theft Pop-Up Shops

Back Me Up's 'Stolen Goods Shop' Reveals Commonly Stolen Items

— November 2, 2016 — Social Good
Insurance app 'Back Me Up' is launching the first-ever 'Stolen Goods Shop' in the UK, which will serve as a pop-up that brings awareness to some of the most commonly stolen items.

The London pop-up will feature an assortment of items that have been turned into the police and sourced from police auctions, including everything from laptops and jewelry to bikes. As the pop-up does function as a shop, members of the public will be able to purchase any of the items on display, with all of the acquired proceeds being shared among charities like Mind, The Prince’s Trust and Shelter.

As well as doing a solid amount of social good, the Stolen Good Shop will make it easy for people to identify the valuables that they should be caring the most for in their own lives.
Trend Themes
1. Increasing Awareness of Stolen Goods - The 'Stolen Goods Shop' pop-up raises awareness about commonly stolen items and encourages people to take better care of their valuables.
2. Reusing and Reselling Recovered Stolen Items - The pop-up shop offers the opportunity to purchase items recovered by the police, promoting sustainability and giving a second life to stolen goods.
3. Charitable Collaboration - The proceeds from the Stolen Goods Shop are shared among charities, combining social good with consumerism and encouraging positive contribution.
Industry Implications
1. Insurance - The insurance industry can explore partnerships with pop-up shops to increase awareness of theft risks and promote their services for protecting valuables.
2. Retail - Retailers can collaborate with pop-up shops to create unique shopping experiences, like purchasing pre-owned or upcycled stolen goods, appealing to environmentally-conscious consumers.
3. Non-profit - Non-profit organizations can consider similar pop-up concepts to raise funds for charitable causes while bringing attention to societal issues like theft prevention and support for vulnerable groups.
