These Spotify Playlists are Created and Narrated by Musicians

These new Spotify playlists feature professional, popular and up-and-coming musicians playing amateur radio jockey.

The Spotify playlists contain curated tracks chosen by artists and bands such as Jungle, Big Narstie and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols. Not only will the musicians choose songs for the Spotify playlists, but the musical tracks will also be interspersed with recordings of the featured artist discussing their choices and talking to the audience. The project is called Spotify In Residence. It was perhaps conceived to compete with Apple Beats 1, a popular live radio show on which artists like Drake, Grimes and St. Vincent have taken turns DJing.

The streaming wars are in full force: as streaming speed, availability and even price point increasingly cease to differentiate services, platform providers seek out bonus options to make them stand out from the competition. These Spotify playlists are a perfect example.
