Music giant Sony is launching a venture aimed at promoting talented gay and lesbian recording artists.
Record label Music With A Twist will send talent scouts across the US to discover new musicians.

Matt Farber, president of media firm Wilderness, which is teaming up with Sony, said the company’s clout will make the new venture a significant one.

Several compilation albums and a syndicated radio programme are also planned as part of the collaboration.

Sounds like a silly idea to me. Why a "gay label"? Is gay music different? Or only for the gays? Or do gay musicians have a less chance of becoming successful? (and if they do, will this change that?) Sounds like "positive discrimination" which I see as a negative thing.

Considering that this was posted on January 2006, almost 3 years ago, it would be interesting to see what happened with the idea. Was it a success? Anyone knows? I share most of your points Hjotur that sexuality shouldnt define the music itself. But I think the idea was to have a small label within the big Sony umbrella to cater to those singers who were discriminated against.

That's right. I didn't notice the date. We need to go do some research to find out if this ever became a reality and if not, why...
