Although eBay has no shortage of charitable contributions to its name, their latest venture is designed to let the world know exactly how socially conscious they can be. On Wednesday, eBay launched a new website, WorldofGood.com, designed to focus on socially responsible supply chains. Through World of Good, users will be able to purchase a variety of surprisingly hip goods through fixed price listings. Emphasis will be placed on transparency, and users will be able to access additional information about the companies and people who make the products. Those already familiar with eBay will recognize a similar system for feedback and purchasing. eBay user IDs and basic account information will be carried over to World Of Goods. Proceeds from purchases will directly benefit socially conscious companies and the producers of the goods, many of which are located in third-world countries.  Shoppers can search for products by certain social or environmental categories, revealing, for example, a photo of the man who produced the fair-trade coffee you're interested in buying, details of its origins and whether some of the proceeds support a charitable cause.
