Facebook recently received a patent to add a social glossary to its line of new updates. Following its 'Reaction' button and sleep-tracking platform, the social site could be adding its own urban dictionary that will keep its users up to date with current slang terms.

Catching slang terms on the cutting edge is a hard task for some. Unless people find themselves in the right social circles, they won't hear or see the popular abbreviations or lingo until it becomes mainstream and has surpassed its popularity. Facebook wants to help keep everyone hip with its patent for social glossary technology.

This interesting platform would detect slang, acronyms and other neologisms and would add them to the glossary if appropriate. It would even expel the terms out of the glossary if they fall from popularity. The code would also note social groups that use the slang based on location and age so everyone is in the loop.
