In this video from the Social Business Conference 2012, Professor Muhammad Yunus discusses the role of universities in pushing social business forward. He asked, "Can they take it to the new frontier?"
The conference itself took place at Università della Svizzera italiana in May and, of course, was much buzzed about because of the place that Yunus has in the development and social enterprise world(s). Interestingly, the professor assured that anyone -- rich or poor -- can become involved in social business because everyone possesses what he calls "creative power." The CEO of Social Business Earth, Samantha Caccamo, also addressed the crowd.
Yunus is a 2006 Nobel Peace Prize Laureate who is touted as the founder of what we think of today as "social business." As an economist from Bangladesh, he founded the Grameen Bank, which sprouted a batch of many other microcredit and microloan institutions in the past forty years.
