If you are trying to maintain a low sodium diet, this smart spoon will come in very useful. Designed by Samsung Art and Design Institute student Joongu Kim, Mr. Sam is a measuring tool that monitors the salt in your foods you might not otherwise detect with your taste buds. Given that most get more salt than they need, this utensil could improve health drastically.
The silicon-covered device offers continuous feedback concerning the salt content in your food. The smart spoon has an ion sensor to detect salt in the liquid it holds. The Korean designer explains "concentration of sodium can be measured by comparing potential difference."
Mr. Sam also has an accompanying app that stores data about sodium intake and personalized meal planning. The tool connects to your smartphone using near field communication (NFC).
