Most people, including dog owners, think that canines lap up water by forming a bowl with their long tongues which they retract into their mouths. Wrong!

According to the slow motion film of a dog drinking, the animals actually form a reverse bowl and flick in water from under their tongues! This is contrary to conventional wisdom and strangely fascinating. We would not have been able to see that without the slow motion photography.

The film was produced by Time Warp, a new Discovery Channel series premiering in fall 2008. The host is MIT scientist and teacher Jeff Lieberman who will use “new technologies to bring truly never-before-seen wonders into a form that your body can actually process!”
