Staying in wine casks may not be anyone’s idea of spending holidays, but the De Vrouwe van Stavoren Hotel in the Netherlands is offering exactly that, with a slight twist though. The hotel offers rooms made from salvaged wine casks brought in from Switzerland. Huge as the casks are, a room can comfortably hold two people and still have space for a sitting room and an attached bathroom. The prices aren’t very high either; a room generally costs Euros 74-119, though the prices fluctuate with the season. This probably is upcycling at its best!  After fulfilling their duty of adding flavor, color, and tannin to thousands of bottles of wine, the barrels were mounted on trucks and shuttled over to Stavoren. The old oak casks make excellent rooms considering their strength and airtight seals, and also offer a great opportunity to brag to your friends.
