Mini Cooper launched a silly marketing campaign to set its cars apart from the rest. To do this, ad agency 'No Comment' set up a huge UFO on top of a Mini Cooper complete with a hashtag. Inside the car, the driver and passenger wore alien costumes.
This out-of-the-ordinary sighting made people whip out their camera phones to take pictures of the "aliens" driving on the street. The reactions it provoked went beyond just people smiling and taking photos -- people approached the car, causing crowds to gather. This incredibly simple promotion helps the campaign travel through word of mouth, as well as on social media networks.
Mini Cooper has previously used alien-themed campaigns to promote its vehicles and its "out of this world" stunts do get people engaged.
