Shimano has introduced its new STEPS line of bike components. STEPS stands for "Shimano Total Electric Power System." The converter set allows an existing bike to be converted into a full-on e-bike while still allowing it to be used as a regular bicycle.

The Shimano Total Electric Power System includes a Li-Ion battery that delivers 25 to 37 miles of range depending on power-mode and a top speed of 15 mph.

Implications - Consumers are looking to reduce their carbon footprint on the planet as eco-consciousness has now permeated into mainstream media. As such, corporations looking to garner positive consumer attention may consider implementing environmentally friendly initiatives into their business operations as well as into their actual products.
