I am not sure what is wrong with the women of Croatia, but if there were “women only” spaces in the UK, I would be psyched to use them. I would have no qualms about them, nor for “women only” seats on public transport. These spaces in a Croatian shopping center were created with the intention of being safer as they are closely monitored by security. Far from being pleased with this idea, all hell broke loose. Women complained about being patronized, and men resented the special treatment, while transsexuals were left in confusion. The designated spots, found at the Emmezeta centre in Zagreb, were only meant to make parking easier for female customers. Talk about being ungrateful. The spots are decorated with pink flowers (this may be a bit patronizing) and the spaces are wider, further apart, better lit and easier to get in and out of than ordinary spaces. Some brilliant quotes from the women: “Do they think we’re disabled or something?” “It’s just old fashioned sexist nonsense to suggest that a woman can’t park every bit as well as a man - if not better.” And from a male customer: “But women should just learn how to drive properly.” Shopping center officials have since apologized for hurting customer feelings, the managing director stating, “We didn’t mean any offence. Most of our customers are ladies and we just wanted to make their lives easier.” References: ananova Filed In: |
