Given the state of the global economy and workforce, many people are turning to freelancing as evidenced by this self-employed workers infographic. Displaying data compiled by communications service provider Vonage, The Anatomy of a Freelancer explores different characteristics of self-employment in Britain.

The freelance infographic examines average annual salaries by sector, the reasons why some choose to become freelancers and what kind of personality traits successful freelancers are required to possess. Vonage notes the number of self-employed workers is on the rise in the United Kingdom with an 18% increase between 2008 and January 2014. Described as a career and lifestyle choice, 41% of freelancing new hires occurred in the IT and tech industry while design, multimedia, writing and translation are also well represented.
