Tory Fair gets his best ideas while driving, sleeping, walking, and bathing… not unlike the rest of us. Where this artist is different from you and I is that he integrates his “best idea” surroundings into a series of pieces that reflect his connection to the environments that prompt his artistic nature. He also works in a fairly unusual medium: cast rubber.

(I added a couple of interesting frames made of rubber to the gallery.)

I need inspiration, so I think I’ll go take a nap.

However, in the sculptures I fabricate a clumsy yet determined connection between body/stem/and bloom. I invite conflict between the literal aspects of the cast figure in contact with the more super-mundane aspects of the stems and flowers. The flowers are affirmations. They have their own speed and their own conscience. The body, cast from my own, captures more the idea of humanness from the outside inwards. (drawingcenter.org)

"Crying flowers" sounds beautifully poetic, but when turned into visual pieces of art, it's rather creepy!
