Designed by Jae-yun Kim and Jong-Su Lee, this innovative speed bump design flattens out when you cross it at a low speed. The idea is to reward careful, slow drivers who approach the speed bump at speeds below 30km/h by giving them a smooth ride over the speed bump; those who exceed this speed will have to suffer the bump. Finally, an end to spilled drinks and grubby cup holders caused by large unavoidable speed bumps is in sight!  Encouraging drivers to retain a constant slow speed will reduce the amount of stops and starts made, and thus, the amount of exhaust waste from the car. It is hoped that this retractable speed hump would therefore have positive effects on energy consumption and pollution.
