Rejecting Olympic Medals

[Edit]
Swedish Wrestler Ara Abrahamian Was Right! (UPDATE)|
After being stripped him from his bronze medal for violating the spirit of fair play during the medal ceremony, Swedish wrestler Ara Abrahamian took his case to Court of Arbitration for Sports, ruled that he had the right to be angry. We limit ourselves to ruling that FILA must, consistently with the (Olympic) Charter and general principles of fairness, establish for the future a jury of appeal to determine the validity or otherwise of complaints of the kind ventilated by (Abrahamian), the judges wrote. The wrestler believed that he was not assessed fairly during his game against Andrea Minguzzi of Italy, who won the gold. He rejected his bronze medal by stepping away from the podium and stating that he is going to retire. FILA (The International Federation of Wrestling),who denied the request for a video review and refused to consider a protest, did not appear at a hearing. So now that the court agrees with the wrestler, how will this effect the past rulings, and will he get his medal back? Will there be a re-match? I am not sure what are the rules of the Olympics, so I will wait and see. Via: news.xinhuanet |
