New York brand Beck(y) designs bags and accessories made out of recycled skateboards and plush high-end fabrics. Beck(y) chops used skateboards and makes edgy designs such as clutch bags and belt buckles.
For each board received by Beck(y), $3 is donated to organizations dedicated to building and maintaining skateparks across United States.
Implications - The use of upcycled materials is becoming more and more popular in all facets of the design industry, from fashion to interior design. This eco-conscious selling point is made all the more attractive when the materials used come from a modern, familiar piece such as skateboards. Companies that use Beck(y) as an example are sure to resonate well with the activist youth demographic.
