Only two weeks into 2009, we have seen an avalanche of edgy and beautifully staged ad campaigns from the fashion world featuring veteran supermodels who, in spite of the tremendous resurgence of younger and beautiful catwalk beauties, still stop traffic. A case in point is this fantastically executed Spring 2009 campaign for the Spanish luxury leather goods store, Loewe, which features model Amber Valletta. The great Steven Klein photographed this alluring campaign that shines a bright spotlight on Valletta. The model, captured in frontal and side shots, looks stunningly surreal and artificial in a robotic sort of way. I see artificial and surreal elements in this campaign in Amber’s unnaturally pale complexion and strangely sedate facial expressions. But, despite feeling like Loewe’s leather purses and handbags are, for the most part, lost in the intensity of Amber’s strange allure and the beautiful backgrounds, I love this quirky photo shoot.
