The Puma Clyde Line Celebrates When the Beastie Boys Were Brand Ambassadors

— September 12, 2016 — Fashion
The Beastie Boys, a New York rap group that got started back in the 1980s, was the source of inspiration for the Puma Clyde collection -- due to the fact that they were "one of the brand’s original ambassadors."

In order to honor the group, Puma includes a selection of retro sportswear -- speaking to some of the styles that were worn by members on their album covers. As HYPEBEAST reports, an example of this includes "a combination of off-white and green, a color scheme donned by Ad-Rock on the cover of the hip-hop group’s 'Check Your Head.'"

In a addition to the Beastie Boys-inspired apparel, the Puma Clyde collection also offers a branded sneaker design in the same off-white and green colorway.
Trend Themes
1. Retro Hip-hop Apparel - Puma's Clyde collection draws inspiration from the 1980s rap group, the Beastie Boys, creating opportunities for brands to tap into nostalgia and capitalize on the popularity of retro styles in the fashion industry.
2. Celebrity Brand Ambassadors - The use of celebrity brand ambassadors, like the Beastie Boys were for Puma, presents opportunities for companies to align themselves with influential personalities and leverage their fan base to promote products.
3. Album Cover Fashion - The incorporation of album cover fashion in apparel collections, as seen with Puma Clyde's tribute to the Beastie Boys, presents opportunities for brands to tap into the nostalgia associated with iconic album art and create unique fashion offerings.
Industry Implications
1. Fashion - The retro hip-hop apparel trend provides fashion brands with opportunities to cater to consumers seeking nostalgic and unique styles inspired by iconic music and cultural movements.
2. Sportswear - By collaborating with musicians and incorporating their iconic styles, sportswear brands can tap into the cultural significance of specific eras, like Puma does with its Beastie Boys-inspired Clyde collection.
3. Lifestyle Brands - Lifestyle brands can leverage the influence of celebrity brand ambassadors, like Puma did with the Beastie Boys, to connect with their target market and position themselves as a lifestyle choice that resonates with their audience.
