Watch out, Facebook, because Project Dirt is on the rise and is one of this year's Deloitte Social Innovation Pioneers. As a niche social network, this enterprise allows for enviro-hungry users to connect, share and learn from each other on one simple platform. Because of the sheer amount of information available regarding "green" initiatives (and correspondingly, greenwashing), it's important to negotiate all of these tidbits in an informative way that will produce action and provide sustainable results.

"We wanted to facilitate sustainable activity taking place and to make the learning more accessible," says Project Dirt on its website. "We also believed green living should be an upgrade, it should be fun –- and it should be progressive."

Founded in April of 2008, the website has grown to include an array of people, businesses, organizations, non-profits and local governments.
