Post-Partum Depression Affecting More Women... Even Britney Spears

Latest reports indicate that Britney Spears may not be an out-of-control party animal. Doctors are suggesting that she make in fact be struggling with Post-Partum Depression… a malady that afflicts many women following childbirth. Although Britney is checked into a rehab centre, her substance abuse problems seem to be secondary to her PPD difficulties, adding her name to the long list of women plagued by this increasingly common form of depression. Apparently, Britney is taking comfort from reading Brooke Shield’s own personal account of her struggle with Post-Partum Depression… another indication of just how common this problem really is.  Troubled pop star Britney Spears is being treated for from postnatal depression at the luxury Malibu rehab centre she entered last week, the celebrity website TMZ.com reported today. The normally reliable website said doctors believe that the post-childbirth blues are the underlying reason for her substance abuse, though there is also a possibility she could be suffering from bipolar disorder.
The report said that doctors believed that Spears was drinking to self-medicate her problem, which has been complicated by an intense feeling on her part that she has lost control of her life.
