A conference of the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species rejected a proposed ban on the trade of polar bear fur and parts in March. The 175-nation CITES group refused to provide the polar bear protection from hunting even in the face of melting sea ice and climate change.

The polar bear protection fail was the second of the conference, which also refused a trade ban on declining bluefin tuna. Polar bear populations are projected to drop over 70 percent in the next 45 years.
