Robust sales of retro undergarments may signal an upturn in the economy, say British retailers. Madonna donned pointy bras in the ‘80s but they were first made popular in the ‘50s by stars like Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, and Jane Russell.
Known as cone bras, conical bras, bullet bras, torpedo bras and just plain pointy bras, the formidable foundation garments are a bit frightening… Imagine being impaled like a bug on a stickpin by a pair of those things!
Maybe they indicate better times ahead, or maybe they’re saying we must proceed with caution. It probably depends on your point of view.
Throughout the last century the trend for feminine pointy shaped bras experienced a renaissance following times of a toughened economy, marking a return of unabashed femininity as women seek to have more fun with fashion as a form of escapism.
