As virtual reality continues to grow in popularity and potential, the PMast is a camera that has augers the democratization of the production of content. The compact device is about the same size as a standard SLR camera, but it can record 360-degree video in high resolution that would satisfy even professional videographers.

The PMast was developed by researchers working at the University of California at San Diego (UCSD.) The camera is just a concept at the moment, but its compact size will make it ideal for shooting immersive content should it make it to market. To be sure, the camera isn't likely to be a consumer model: it contains professional-grade lenses and processors that often run for thousands of dollars. Nonetheless, the technology behind the camera could eventually be adapted to more affordable models.
