Designer Juan Fernando Hidalgo Cordero discovers that the material totora can be used for furniture and household items. In collaboration with design company Maison & Objet, they create an advanced art deco feel without sacrificing function and quality. Weight pushes the totora reeds down making tabletops ideal for keeping glasses and bottles in a fixed position. The reeds are restored by pulling a lever to draw them upward and returning to a flat surface.

Plant furniture got a whole lot more interesting thanks to totora, especially because this material is so versatile. It is used for stools, seats, tables, lamps and storage. The beauty of this material is it conforms to your body shape and restores its original form after use. This means that it is customizable for every shape unlike permanent grooves in other types of furniture.
