The 3.1 Phillip Lim Pre-Fall 2014 Collection was a result of his 40th birthday venture in Berlin. He was fascinated by its "percolating current of rave culture," even though rave's heyday was somewhere within the 90s.
In Berlin, you can snap your glow sticks against the backdrop of historical ruins further alluding to the city's transitional landscape. That said, pre-fall itself is a transitional season, which incorporates both spring and fall in one, but never evades one for the other.
The collection has a frantic and sometimes messy energy of a party running late. The transitional theme is applied liberally where on one side you have raw and ragged garments while the other is properly tailored; and of course, side-zipped sweatshirts and leather jogging pants are thrown in as his usual hits.
