Philips has unveiled a new smart Philips lighting system that will communicate with consumers phones. The in-store LED light displayed at Euroshop in Dusseldorf last month. It showed off its capabilities and how the intelligent lighting system is being piloted alongside various global retailers.

The Philips lighting system will communicate with people and their smartphones via a flickering that cannot be seen by the human eye. This is what will activate the app. Each and every fixture will have a unique pattern that can be customized to the retailer's needs. This will allow brands to send out coupons and deals to consumers when they are closer to the products themselves.

The Philips lighting system would be able to work with existing retailer apps that already have an integrated lighting infrastructure in place. The best part about the Philips lighting system is that retailers do not have to worry about external beacons or other technology to have the system in place.
