The Gold Coast has been redefined in northern New South Wales, and while the beaches are more rustic than those of its neighbour to the north, the New Tweed Coast features no shortage of luxury accomodation. Sensibly hidden away from the golden beach (but not too far) lies Peppers Salt Resort & Spa.
The resort, not yet two years young, features 345 rooms and suites, among which there are a plethora of sizes, locations and views. Hotel-style studio suites are standard sized but appointed graciously with quality amenities. However, the 164 one, two and three bedroom suites feature kitchens, separate living areas, and are the perfect solution for those who need more space, or staying more than a day or two.
The two bedroom suite on the ground floor doesn’t disappoint. The LCD TV draws immediate attention upon entering the suite; it is surrounded by a generously sized seating area that extends beyond a six-person dining table. The fully-equipped kitchen, with no less than a full-size refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave, is undoubtedly appreciated by most.
The master bedroom doesn’t lend itself to manoeuvrability; however, this quickly forgotten as the master bath is incredibly spacious. Generous use of mirrors and glass make for an airy feel; his and her sinks are an added bonus. All suites either have balconies or, for ground floor suites, patios – perfect for enjoying the temperate weather of the area (legend has it that the area has 360 sunny days a year).
Ideally situated as far from the master bedroom as possible is the second bedroom (complete with twin beds). A second bathroom, found in this enclave, ensures full privacy for the master suite occupants. Guests will be thrilled to discover full laundry facilities (detergent provided).
Resort facilities are just as impressive as the suite. A choice between two pools or a tropical swimming lagoon (with bar service) will undoubtedly please swimmers and loungers alike; they are peaceful, even in those times when the resort is at capacity. A full business and conference centre is available for those managers who want to delight their employees.
Dining options on property may be Peppers’ lone shortcoming; fortunately, numerous fine establishments are within a short walking distance. The in-house restaurant, Roughies, serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Enjoy a lavish and carefully prepared breakfast buffet, but look elsewhere when it comes to dinner. Pan-fried skate wings are poorly presented and offer no improvement when tasted. The wild barramundi fillet, however, is saved by decadent macadamia and spinach sauce. Tranquil patio seating is complemented by friendly but spotty service.
Walking along a path through several metres of brush, guests will discover the property’s striking one kilometre beach front. The vast ocean may appear slightly overwhelming to first-time swimmers as they sink their feet into the hot sand, but they will be quickly reassured when they see that the Salt Surf Life Saving Club has set up shop for the day. Simply remember to swim between the flags.
