This simple paper lantern tutorial by DIY blog The House that Lars Built teaches home owners to make a fun outdoor decorative lamp for a backyard or a porch. Making these pleated paper lamps is surprisingly simple to do.

Begin by picking up various sheets of card in several fun colors. Fold the card in half and make several linear cuts running in the opposite direction of the paper fold. These cuts will create pleats in the paper where the light will seep out of once the lantern is finished. Roll the paper into a circle and glue the edges together. Then scrunch the lantern so that the cut-out pleats open up. Add a paper handle, pop a candle inside and you're ready for a whimsical backyard party.
