German Athletes Nude for Playboy
Four female German athletes competing in the Beijing Olympics are searing news wires with their decisions to pose nude for Playboy. The German edition of the girlie magazine have just released their September issue with four different/alternate covers featuring Petra Niemann (sailing), Katharina Scholz (field hockey), Romy Tarangul (judo) and Nicole Reinhard (canoe/kayak).
The topless pictures don't lend these athletes any credibility as to their athletic prowess. Tarangul has already been eliminated in the judo competition. Niemann reportedly told Playboy "I've been working hard with my psychologist" which begs the question whether she needed the professional help for the competition or whether she needed her head examined for the nude modelling. Scholz insisted that for her, "it was a good opportunity, and maybe when I look back after a few years I will be proud of it." She has no plans to model for a living.
These athletes are not the first to strip for publicity but they are the first for the Beijing Games.
