Olympic graffiti protest

American pastor paints Beijing hotels|
Eddie Romero is a United States pastor who has traveled to Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games to protest Chinese human rights policies. Romero rented two hotel rooms in Beijing and painted the walls with slogans calling attention to China’s human rights record, such as “Beijing 2008 Our world Our nightmare”. He then disappeared.....without paying. The unusual protest, which he filmed and is now making the rounds on YouTube, managed to overcome the tight security measures China has imposed on troublemakers attending the games. The video shows Romero graffiting the walls of his two hotel rooms, slashing pillows and staging mock killings with stuffed people propped on the bed with red paint spattered like blood on the headboard. Romero’s friends said the preacher was in hiding, but planned to surrender to Chinese authorities as soon as the Olympics end Aug. 24. The hotels said the case was in the hands of police...although a Beijing police spokeswoman said she knew nothing of it. Via: msnbc.msn |
