NYC Going Green [Edit]

In efforts to reduce air pollution, and improve the city’s “long term sustainability, Mayor Michael Bloomberg set a goal to plant 1 million new trees by the year 2017.  Each year for the next 10 years, the city “will plant 23,000 trees along city streets and any other “place where it is possible to plant a street tree.”

The city said the increase in trees will help cool temperatures, because trees over roads help decrease the near-surface air temperature by 3.5 degrees. They also remove air pollution and reduce ozone, officials said. (news.yahoo)
