Nissan has launched a promotion in London and Amsterdam, the Nissan LEAF '6XCHEAPER' campaign, to demonstrate to consumers how using electric vehicles as taxi cabs could mean cheaper rides for all.

The Nissan LEAF '6XCHEAPER' campaign is based on the premise that a petrol car, similar in size to a Nissan LEAF, would cost six times more to fuel than an electric vehicle. Because it's cheaper to fill up an EV, taxi drivers operating one could pass their cost savings onto passengers in the form of lower cab fares.

To demonstrate this, Nissan released a fleet of its electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF vehicles out into the streets of London and Amsterdam, encouraging people to tweet about the campaign using the hashtag '6XCHEAPER' in exchanged for a free rides.
