Nike 'Voices' is a campaign that celebrates the 40th anniversary of Title IX, a law passed in 1972 barring sex-based discrimination in federally funded activities, which essentially allowed females to participate in sporting events.
The campaign uses the hashtag #MAKETHERULES on Facebook and Twitter, which goes hand in hand with the Nike Voices film, featuring young girls representing female pro athletes as they tell stories about achieving their goals, overcoming tough challenges and playing by their own rules. Four female athletes are included in the video: Joan Benoit Samuelson, the first woman to win a gold medal in distance running; the WNBA's Lisa Leslie, who has won four gold medals; Diane Taurasi, who plays for Phoenix Mercury and is a two-time gold medalist; and USA Women's Boxing team member Marien Esparza, who has won six national championships.
