The artwork of Nicholas Chistiakov is incredibly glitchy. In fact, a person might mistakenly assume that they are stills of rather creepy digital gifs. That is, until people peruse through more of his portfolio. It becomes immediately clear that Nicholas Chistiakov's paintings adopt the abstract nature of his predecessors such as Pablo Picasso and Francis Bacon.
Born in the Soviet Union and based in New York City, Nicholas Chistiakov turned to museums and galleries to help transition himself to his new surroundings and way of life. That eventually progressed into creating his own artworks. Although gaining some notoriety early on, the stress led to a stay in a psychiatric hospital. Since then, Nicholas Chistiakov has delved into a more figurative style of painting that he terms deconstructivism.
