The new Calgary library has finally been revealed, with the winning designers being a collaboration between DIALOG and Snohetta. The two will build the design which runs over a railway line, resulting in an arching understructure, allowing people to move from one side to the other easily.
The city was looking for a design that was technologically advanced, giving people an area for research, innovation and development. The look of the building certainly matches these aims, with a curved exterior that stands out from the surrounding architecture. It's located between the downtown core and the east village, making it convenient for those that live on more of the outskirts of town.
The goal for the new Calgary library is to have everything open by 2018, so that the public can enjoy everything it has to offer.
