NAKED MODELS IN EVERYDAY SITUATIONS

A newly launched advertising campaign by the internet retailer Zappos suggests that nudity sells just as well, if not better, than sex. Or at least they hope. Their new ads portray nude models in everyday situations such as jogging, hailing a cab, riding a Vespa scooter, and playing frisbee. They intend on using naked models who are in need of clothes as a more literal approach to selling clothing. Their website offers hundreds of brands, including Stuart Weitzman, Lolë, and Spanx. They also sell high-end designers on a separate website, Zappos Couture, such as Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney. The advertisements were shot outdoors in Manhattan, ranging from locations such as Park Avenue to the West Village. They show naked women with censor bars opportunely placed over their nude bodies. The models they use, however, are not the tall, slim models most designers tend to use. They expose a more natural, refreshing portrayal of women all sizes and shapes. Perhaps even more interesting is the ability to visit their website and dress those same models in various clothes and outfits. This allows the consumer to envision what they would ultimately look like dressed in the clothing they are interested in purchasing.
