The Municipal Pools of Povoacao in Portugal are a series of indoor swimming areas that are housed within a naturally-lit, man-made subterranean cavern.

Designed by Barbosa and Guimaraes Arquitectos, the roof of the Municipal Pools of Povoacao are covered in a vibrant green roof which is inter-cut with naturally day-lit skylights. Although the structure houses a number of extensive public pools, you'd never know it from the building's cleverly disguised and eco-friendly exterior.
