Moscow Millionaire Fair 2008 Viktor & Rolf may have introduced us to inverted champagne sets, but at the 2008 Millionaire Fair in Moscow, we saw people being served by upside down hostesses, danging in the air. As one familiar with the creme de la creme of champagnes would have guessed (and most have never heard of), they served Laurent Perrier. They wore powder blue dresses, complete with matching sleevelets and caps on their heads, smiling amicably as the blood rushed to their heads. Mark my words, there was so sign of recession at this luxe exhibition. As the gallery shows, the attendees were decked in the most magnificent regalia as they poked their powdered noses into various displays which boasted nothing short of world-class opulence. “This clearly isn’t a good time to invest,” Alexander Aivazov answered when asked if the country still had money. “But we Russians have always got money hidden away somewhere, often in the refrigerator.” To attend, all you have to do is be a millionaire, and you’ll automatically receive your invite; this year, it was noted there were over 100,000 of them. Others can still attend, but must dress in millionaire-worthy apparel and shell out $64 for entry (that will cover the cost of your glass of Laurent Perrier.)
