Japanese Cedar Pod Bags - Eco-friendly Monacca Designs

Monacca is an environmentally-friendly brand that produces a range of bags, backpacks, small furniture and even calculators made of Japanese cedar. The sleek and warm design of these handbags, a line for both women and men, is a product of industrial designer, Takumi Shimamura. They are made of cedar, canvas and leather and have a water repellent finish. The small furniture pieces include a floor cushion and low tables and chairs. Due to the different natural grains of cedar, each piece is unique, and prices ranging from $250 to $300. What’s makes them eco-friendly? A percentage of the sales goes back to rebuilding forests. The wood comes from Umagi Village on the south coast of the southern island of Shikoku, Japan.  1% of Monacca sales are plowed back into the forest..We started our project of making good use of thinned wood and contribute to the forest. Umagi Village in Kouchi Prefecture established 'Millenimum Forest Fund' to keep the forest forever. And Ecoasu Co.,Ltd, which produces Monacca is contributing 1% of sales to this fund for the maintenence of the forest.
