Although Miss Van's paintings are extremely erotic in nature, I can't help but look beyond the eroticism to see just how lovely and almost adorable each of her characters are. With a classic Victorianesque look, they all have porcelain skin, a pink pout and long, luscious locks.

Miss Van's paintings embody both the aesthetic of her native country, France, and the underlying sensuality that is often associated with that culture. Her nymphlike doll characters sprung up spontaneously in her mind and began to evolve as a way to explore her own identity.

Then Miss Van's paintings took a life of their own and she began creating more provocative ones to challenge her viewers. As Miss Van puts it, "[I] wish they disturbed and provoked fantasies. I want them to make the viewer react, no matter the reaction."
