Minimalism is the new word in web design. As more and more information comes to the Internet, designers are giving surfers a mental break by simplifying, de-cluttering and minimizing websites.

Web design has come a long way since its inception. The Telegraph recently pulled together the original designs for the top 20 websites, and the differences are drastic.

The minimal concept has already hit some mainstream sites--just consider Twitter. With all the tweets hitting the site every day (estimated at about 1,000,000 per day), having a simplified home page welcome you is the only way to handle the information overload.
