Photographer Mikko Lagerstedt captures wild animals stalking the streets of Porvoo, Finland at night. His series called ‘Night Animals’ captures animals as if they’re people, or simply lonely travelers unsettled in their solitude. The photos are all dimly lit, featuring owls, exotic birds and horses all captured against Finnish architecture, benches and street corners. These images elicit a humane essence as if the animals are really reflections of ourselves.
The composition of the images is simple; an animal subject in an urban setting, complete with light fixtures and gloomy fog. His inspiration for these wild animal photos came from walking the streets at night and coming across a silhouetted cat. Lagerstedt captured the image of the cat behind a streetlamp and thus gave birth to his new artistic project.
