An archaeologist at Mexico’s National Institute of Anthropology and History, Luis Gamboa, discovered a mass grave containing skeletons of 24 children in a tomb near a construction site just north of Mexico City. The children had been sacrificed between 950 and 1150 A.D. in a ritual offering to the Toltec Rain God, Tlaloc. All of the skeletons were buried east facing sunrise. The children ranged in age from 5 to 15 years old. Source: news.nationalgeographic |
