Mercedes-Benz just did the Detroit Auto Show a huge favor: they will officially unwrap the hottest car sitting in the cavern known as Cobo Hall. The 2009 McLaren SLR Stirling Moss is just one bold machine!

At a price tag nearing a cool million, the Mercedes will be the final car built in partnership with McLaren. A limited edition, the car will be sold to 75 lucky dogs. With a top end of 217 mph, this isn’t the fastest production car, but it might be the most fearsome looking car ever built. 650-hp supercharged 5.5-liter V8 and the five-speed automatic from the SLR 722 will be the power plant and drive. Swing-wing doors and a retractable air brake (!) are the engineering marvels most obvious.

This is why the modern-day version of the legendary SLR carries the additional words "Stirling Moss" in its name. As the new SLR Stirling Moss unites the character of the current SLR models with the fascination of the SLR of 1955. The core values of both the historical and the present-day SLR models include an exciting new design, innovative technology, high-class materials displaying perfect craftsmanship, and, above all: a unique driving experience for all the senses.
