This unique growing outdoor billboard by Leo Burnett, which promotes McDonald’s health-conscious menu items, just won a Gold at New York Festivals’ Innovative Advertising Awards.

The garden billboard was erected a few months ago with green lettuce planted to form the words “fresh salads.” The creative team worked closely with a horticulturist/landscape architect to have the lettuce start with 1½-inch spouts and grow into lush leaves over time. Watch the garden billboard grow in the above video.

The billboard was created by Leo Burnett, Chicago with creative team of Brian Shembeda, Mark Tutssel, John Condon, Vince Cook, and Gary Fox-Robertson.

Good thing lettuce was chosen, and not tomatoes to do this billboard with.

speaking of green advertising, i just came across this nature mural in downtown San Francisco. Its pretty cool. It was made by cleaning dirt and car exhaust from a wall next to a busy street by using green cleaning products. check out the video on you tube too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5lX-2sP0JFw
